New Safety & Security Declarations Now Mandatory

Since the 31st January 2025, hauliers importing goods into the UK from EU countries must now complete Safety & Security declarations by submitting an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS). This requirement, already in place for imports from non-EU countries, aims to strengthen border security by preventing illicit goods such as drugs and weapons from entering the country.

The legal responsibility for submitting these declarations falls on the haulier or carrier transporting the goods, though they can appoint a third party to handle the process on their behalf. The UK government states that these measures will not only enhance security but also reduce the need for checks on legitimate goods, facilitating smoother trade flows

Failure to comply with the new rules could result in additional inspections at the border, delays, and potential fines.
